Common Air Conditioning Problems

During the long hot Texas summers, we rely on our air conditioning units to keep us cool and comfortable. Without proper air conditioning maintenance, minor issues can become bigger problems, resulting in the need for air conditioning repair. Read on to learn about some of the most common air conditioning problems our AC repair technicians are called out for and how you can help prevent them!

1. Refrigerant Leaks

If your air conditioning unit is funning low on refrigerant, it could mean that it has a leak. Aside from preventing your air conditioner from functioning at full capacity, a refrigerant leak can be very harmful to the environment. If you suspect that your AC unit has a refrigerant leak, reach out to us at Lightfoot Mechanical. We’ll fix the leak, charge your AC unit with more refrigerant and ensure everything is working properly again.

2. Incorrect Sensor Position

If your air conditioning unit has a thermostat sensor built into it, it’s important that the sensor is in the correct position. If it’s not, it won’t be able to measure the temperature of the air that comes into the evaporator coils. This in turn could cause your AC unit to continuously run. Ensuring the thermostat sensor is in the correct place and making any necessary adjustments is something our AC repair technicians can handle without issue.

3. Foregoing Regular Maintenance

Over the course of an air conditioner’s lifespan, it’s natural for it to accumulate some wear and tear. When left unchecked however, this wear and tear can eventually lead to larger, more serious issues. These issues could end up causing a complete failure of your cooling system. Avoid costly repairs by having your AC unit checked out on a regular basis by scheduling annual AC maintenance with professional HVAC contractors.

4. Outdoor Fan Issues

Your AC unit’s outdoor fan plays a big role in transferring heat from the inside of your house to the outside. If the fan isn’t working correctly, and the heat can’t be transferred, your air conditioning unit could overheat. If you suspect there’s an issue with your air conditioner’s fan, give our AC technicians a call today!

5. Frozen AC Unit

There are several different things that could cause your AC unit to freeze up. Dirty filters, low refrigerant levels and a malfunctioning blower fan are all likely culprits. Dirty filters need to be cleaned or replaced to prevent air flow restriction while refrigerant levels need to be kept at the correct levels to prevent coils from freezing. If you’re been having issues with your air conditioner freezing up, try the above or call in an air conditioner professional.
